House on Peconic Bay with Green Roof and Open Plan

by Stefan Gheorghe

Christopher Jeffrey Architects designed a waterfront retreat overlooking Peconic Bay, where the site slopes forty feet down to the wetlands. The project includes a 1,500-square-foot single-story house and a 400-square-foot pool house with an in-ground pool. Concrete walls anchor the home into the slope, drawing the hillside into the interior.

Native grasses and wildflowers surround the site, shifting in color with the seasons, while the green roof extends this natural palette across the architecture.

An open plan links the main living spaces to the deck and pool, with pocket doors that slide away to connect directly to the landscape.

The master bedroom sits in the northeast corner to capture morning light.

Radiant concrete floors are topped with European white oak, while mechanical systems are discreetly hidden in the roof structure. The pool house, a simple wood volume, anchors its own private corner with views to the bay and pool.
