Tucked into the forested slopes above Portugal’s Douro River, Douro Wood House from MJARC – Arquitectos Associados, lda seems less built than grown from the earth itself. Its living green roof, blanketed with native vegetation, allows the structure to vanish into the hillside.

Raised lightly on steel supports, the timber and corten-clad retreat preserves the natural terrain and the trees that surround it. The exterior’s weathered hues echo the bark and soil, creating a quiet camouflage that shifts with the light and seasons.

Soft wood tones, concrete textures, and panoramic glass openings that invite the forest and river views in. More than a home, it’s a refuge designed to disappear, a shelter that listens to the land rather than altering it.
